in 1997 by award wining actress Terri
J. Vaughn, who starred on the comedy
television show, The Steve Harvey
Show, Take Wings Foundation assists
in developing productive and self-sufficient
young women who understand and appreciate
the importance of developing a sense
of character and becoming positive
role models in their communities.
Growing up in San Francisco Hunter's
Point, a community that faces drug
trafficking, gang violence, prostitution
and many other negative elements,
Terri J. Vaughn was given first hand
knowledge of the challenges girls
face everyday. Located in Oakland,
California, Take Wings serve girls
ages thirteen through eighteen in
at risk communities in the San Francisco
Bay Area and is committed to developing
responsible and positive young women,
by providing training, community service
and scholarships.

Charter School in San Francisco, California,
Leadership High School serves the
San Francisco Bay Area and its diverse
students by providing an excellent

community leaders. With a graduation
rate of 97% and a large African American
and Hispanic make-up, Leadership High

Cathedral City High School

With an enrollment of 2,768 students, Cathedral City High School, a public high school in Cathedral City, California, provides academic, co curricular and vocational programs designed to meet the rigors of district and state mandated standards. All students are welcomed into a school culture that encourages their individuality and fosters a sense of belonging. By participating in this educational community, students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that serve them today and in the future. With a large Hispanic or Latino and White population, Cathedral City High School caters to an economically and socially diverse student body. Through effective communication with students, parents, educators, and the community, Cathedral City High School prides itself in consistently striving for excellence. Cathedral City High School recognizes and promotes the active cooperation, involvement and collaboration with the surrounding business and government communities.

Our Kids First

Founded in 1989, Our Kids First is a non-profit organization committed to providing academic, social, and cultural enrichment to young people by educating and preparing them to be successful, independent and responsible members and leaders of society. Located in the Outer-Mission District of San Francisco, California, OKF was established as an assistance program for inner city youth to provide tutoring, counseling, training, and guidance. This program is offered to all students beginning in grade Kindergarten- 12th Grade. Our Kids First also consists of a summer day camp and sports program.

Washington Unified School District (West Sacramento)

With an enrollment of 6,902, Washington Unified School District of West Sacramento, California caters to a large White and Hispanic population, who are economically disadvantaged. However, Washington Unified is making tremendous strides in improving educational accessibility and student achievement. Every school in the district met the State growth target, and in many cases exceeded the State target by more than ten times, and Evergreen Elementary raised its scores by seventy-eight points. The California Foundation was pleased to grant Washington Unified School District of West Sacramento with its 2005 Grant for Elementary Schools.

Cathedral School for Boys

Cathedral School for Boys, founded in 1957 in San Francisco, strives to provide education in the best traditions of the Episcopal Church and in consonance with the mission of Grace Cathedral to boys grades Kindergarten - 8th Grade. CSB's educational style is derived from three main sources: the highest academic and personal standards humanely applied; a diverse community united in its concern for the school and for the world; and an active engagement with religion and the spiritual dimension. Academically, the school sets high standards in literacy, basic skills, self-discipline, the joy of learning, and the pursuit of wisdom. The California Foundation was pleased to donate to the Cathedral School for Boys Annual Giving Campaign.

American Red Cross

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the devastation it caused to the Gulf Coast; especially Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, The California Foundation was able to give a generous donation to the American Red Cross, for students displaced by the hurricane. In addition to donating to the American Red Cross, The California Foundation also donated new clothes for several students who were displaced and suffered great loss.
